Academic

Credit

While students are at STEP, they earn grades that translate to credit at their sending district. During the intake process, districts communicate

which courses the student is enrolled in so that the curriculum can meet their academic and credit requirements. Districts have the option to send work or can opt for STEP teachers to provide content that aligns with MA standards and their current courses.

Cohorts

STEP has two academic cohorts, and each cohort team consists of a lead teacher, a behavior specialist, and a clinician. Our 1:2 staff-to-student ratio allows for individualized support and the ability to fully capture the academic and clinical needs of a student in the learning environment. Our cohort size is a maximum of 8 students.

Academic Testing

For students who require formal academic testing, STEP offers the Kaufman Test of Academic Achievement (KTEA-3), and the results of this testing are presented in the assessment as well as the final evaluation meeting.

MCAS

For students who require MCAS testing during the evaluation period, districts can opt to transfer MCAS administration to STEP, and our staff can administer the test on the districts’ behalf.
