Referral Process

Applications for admission to the Dearborn STEP assessment program are accepted throughout the school year from local school districts and private referrals. Districts formally refer students to STEP who have struggled to be successful due to social-emotional, attendance, behavioral and learning challenges, as well as a hospital step-down.

The admissions process officially begins when Dearborn STEP assessment receives a referral from the student’s school. STEP’s director reviews the referral. If we believe we can meet the student’s needs, we inform the district, and with its consent contact the parents/guardians to share what STEP has to offer them. With parental/guardian agreement, the process moves forward and interviews are scheduled at STEP.
