At Dearborn STEP, we ensure that every student who visits our school for a tour and/or interview leaves feeling hopeful about their future. We always tell students that no matter what placement they choose to attend, it should be a place where they can envision themselves as feeling safe and comfortable.
The referral process starts from the very first phone call or email from the district. We take time to carefully review a student’s referral packet and assess if STEP may be a place that can provide a meaningful assessment.
We know that students and caregivers are, in part, considering enrollment at Dearborn STEP because school has not been a place where they have felt successful. It is our goal that we can provide some hope that can carry over to future success.
